BOGOTÁ, Colombia, 7 de marzo de 2021.- Ha pasado un año desde el primer caso confirmado de Coronavirus en Colombia, un año en el que el deporte y el periodismo deportivo han pasado tal vez el peor momento de la historia.
Desde ese día el pánico se apoderó del país, al igual que en el resto del mundo, y día a día los noticieros se llenaban con noticias de muertos, contagiados, hospitales sin camas disponibles en las unidades de cuidados intensivos, pero esta vez no de otros países, las noticias ahora eran las nuestras. Cada día era tan sombrío que, aunque salía el sol, parecía siempre oscuro.
Entramos en aislamiento y el país se hizo más lento, negocios cerrados, calles prácticamente desocupadas, y por supuesto, el deporte cancelado. Las secciones de deportes de los noticieros y los medios especializados solo informaban del aplazamiento o cancelación de los eventos deportivos nacionales e internacionales, que de por sí, eran bastantes en Colombia.
Así, la incertidumbre inundaba a los cientos de periodistas deportivos, algunos perdieron sus trabajos ante la falta de eventos sobre los que informar, a otros les redujeron el salario, pero los más afectados sin duda, fueron los colegas independientes, quienes quedaron totalmente sin ingresos, los mismos que vieron el regreso del deporte, pero sin la posibilidad de trabajar, pues como en todo el mundo, las competencias, partidos y juegos se realizaban sin público.
Cada día se siguen presentando casos de contagios y muertes por Covid-19, pero el deporte se sigue reactivando, siendo Colombia, tal vez el país del continente americano, que en la actualidad tiene más deportes en actividad. Desde el segundo semestre del año pasado, volvió el fútbol, luego se realizó la Gira Colsanitas de Tenis con torneos en 4 ciudades del país, los cuales se jugaron en Clubes privados. Más adelante y en modo burbuja se reactivaron el baloncesto tanto masculino como femenino y el béisbol masculino.
EL COVID-19 EN 2021
La pandemia no se ha ido, pero nos hemos acostumbrado a vivir con ella, es por esto que el Ministerio del Deporte de Colombia junto al Comité Olímpico Colombiano y a las Federaciones y Ligas Deportivas le siguen apostando a la reactivación deportiva. En este 2021, el país ya realizó en febrero el Panamericano de Patinaje de Velocidad en Ibagué donde la Federación Colombiana de Patinaje recibió la participación de más de 1000 patinadores de 16 países del continente. También la serie de clasificación de la AmeriCup 2022 organizada por la Federación Colombiana de Baloncesto en Cali a finales de febrero y el PSA Challenger de Squash que se disputó en la Amatista, la cancha de cristal construida en el Centro de Alto Rendimiento por la Federación Colombiana de Squash. Además, deportes como el Patinaje Artístico, Ciclismo, Billar, Tiro con Arco tuvieron eventos nacionales.
Por otra parte, la Federación Colombiana de Tenis junto a la ITF y a la Cosat, Confederación Sudamericana de Tenis, realizarán a finales de marzo tres torneos, el ITF J1 Copa Barranquilla torneo en el que participarán tenistas de América, Europa y Asia, el Cosat J1 Cali evento destinado a jugadores menores de 18 años y el JB1 Suramericano Individual en Armenia.
El tenis seguirá siendo internacional y para el mes de abril el país recibirá a decenas de tenistas de diferentes continentes quienes participarán en la WTA Copa Colsanitas, el torneo femenino más importante de la parte sur del continente.
Más deportes ya tienen sus eventos en el calendario 2021, la Federación Colombiana de Ciclismo junto a la UCI realizarán del 5 al 11 de abril la 2.2. Vuelta a Colombia al igual que la Copa Mundo de Pista en agosto, último evento de clasificación para Tokio 2020. El fútbol internacional tendrá acción con la Copa América, programada del 11 de junio al 10 de julio y PanamSports sigue firme con la organización de los Primeros Juegos Panamericanos de la Juventud, para septiembre de 2021.
EL PERIODISMO SIGUE INFECTADO
Si bien la reactivación del deporte es importante especialmente a pocos meses de los Juegos Olímpicos, la reactivación de los Periodistas Deportivos debería ser una realidad, pues deporte sin cubrimiento presencial no es lo mismo, sin embargo, la mayoría de los Periodistas Deportivos no están ni en la primera o segunda línea de prioridad de vacunación.
La mayoría de las organizaciones de estos eventos, exigen la prueba negativa del Covid-19, que en Colombia tiene un costo de aproximadamente US$25, precio que no es fácil pagar si se tiene en cuenta que la mayoría de los Periodistas del país son independientes.
Sin duda nuestra profesión seguirá contagiada de Covid-19.

ONE YEAR OF CORONAVIRUS IN COLOMBIA

BOGOTA, Colombia, March 7, 2021.- A year has passed since the first confirmed case of Coronavirus in Colombia, a year in which sports and sports journalism have perhaps had the worst moment in history.
From that day on, panic seized the country, as in the rest of the world, and every day the news was filled with news of the dead, infected, hospitals without beds available in intensive care units, but not from other countries, this time the news was ours. Every day was so gloomy that, although the sun came up, it always seemed dark.
We went into isolation and the country slowed down, businesses closed, streets practically empty, and of course, sports canceled. The sports sections of the news and specialized media only reported the postponement or cancellation of national and international sporting events, which were quite a lot in Colombia.
Thus, uncertainty flooded the hundreds of sports journalists, some lost their jobs due to the lack of events to report on, others had their salary reduced, but the most affected undoubtedly were freelance colleagues, who were completely without income, the same ones who saw the return of sport, but without the possibility of working, because as in the whole world, competitions, matches and games were held without an audience.
Every day cases of infections and deaths from Covid-19 still, but sport continues to reactivate, being Colombia, perhaps the country in the American continent, which currently has more sports in activity. Since the second semester of last year, football returned, then the Colsanitas Tennis Tour was held with tournaments in 4 cities of the country, which were played in private clubs. Later, in bubble mode, both men’s and women’s basketball and men’s baseball were reactivated.
COVID-19 IN 2021
The pandemic has not gone away, but we have become used to living with it, a reason why the Ministry of Sports of Colombia together with the Colombian Olympic Committee and the Sports Federations and Leagues continue to bet on sports reactivation. In 2021, the country already held in February the Pan American Speed Skating in Ibagué where the Colombian Skating Federation received the participation of more than 1000 skaters from 16 countries of the continent. Also the qualifying series of the AmeriCup 2022 organized by the Colombian Basketball Federation in Cali at the end of February and the PSA Challenger of Squash that was played in the Amethyst, the glass court built in the High Performance Center by the Colombian Squash Federation. Also sports such as Figure Skating, Cycling, Billiards, Archery had national events.
On the other hand, the Colombian Tennis Federation together with the ITF and the Cosat, -South American Tennis Confederation-, will hold three tournaments at the end of March, the ITF J1 Copa Barranquilla tournament in which tennis players from America, Europe and Asia will participate, the Cosat J1 Cali event for players under 18 years of age and the JB1 South American Individual in Armenia.
Tennis will continue to be international and in April the country will receive dozens of tennis players from different continents who will participate in the WTA Colsanitas Cup, the most important women’s tournament in the southern part of the continent.
More sports already have their events in the 2021 calendar, the Colombian Cycling Federation together with the UCI will carry out the 2.2. Vuelta a Colombia between April 5-11, as well as the Track World Cup in August, the last qualifying event for Tokyo 2020. International football will have action with the Copa América, scheduled from June 11 to July 10 and PanamSports remains firm with the organization of the I Pan American Youth Games, for September 2021.
JOURNALISM STILL INFECTED
Although the reactivation of sport is important especially a few months before the Olympic Games, the reactivation of Sports Journalists should be a reality, since sport without face-to-face coverage is not the same, however, the majority of Sports Journalists are neither on the first or second priority line of vaccination.
Most of the organizations of these events require the negative test of Covid-19, which in Colombia cost approximately US $25, a price that is not easy to pay taking into account that most of the country’s journalists are freelancers. Without a doubt, our profession will continue to be infected with Covid-19.
