Berlin (dpa) – Germany striker Max Kruse is likely to be fined by his club Wolfsburg after he reportedly left 75,000 euros (83,500 dollars) in cash in a Berlin taxi.

Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs told Bild newspaper Monday he and coach Dieter Hecking had spoken to Kruse about the affair.

«It will be sanctioned,» he was quoted as saying.

Kruse, 27, can expect a five-figure fine, Bild said.

The newspaper had reported that Kruse left the money behind in a taxi on an early Sunday morning in October. The cash was never recovered.

«We have explained to him the conduct we expect from our players,»

Allofs said. «I can only hope this is a lesson for him and that he changes his behaviour.»

Kruse is in his first season at Wolfsburg after signing from Borussia Moenchengladbach. He has won 14 caps for Germany.
