SANTO DOMINGO, República Dominicana, 17 de agosto de 2020.- El presidente de la Organización Deportiva Centroamericana y del Caribe (ODECABE), Luis Mejía (DOM), declaró ante la Asamblea General Extraordinaria, convocada este sábado 15 de agosto de 2020, que la organización no ha dejado de funcionar a pesar de la situación de salud que vive el mundo con el coronavirus.
Esta declaración fue expresada por el máximo ejecutivo de la organización, a través de la plataforma virtual ZOOM a todos los delegados representantes de los países miembros de la ODECABE.
Mejía informó que desde antes del inicio de la pandemia, la Junta Ejecutiva ha continuado trabajando de forma remota a través de las distintas plataformas virtuales para dar una señal de unidad, junto con los Comités Olímpicos nacionales, a los deportistas de los países miembros de la organización.
Entre los puntos tratados durante la sesión extraordinaria, Mejía informó que la Comisión Legal, presidida por Christopher Samuda (JAM), se encuentra trabajando en las gestiones que deberá tomar la ODECABE en relación con el retiro del Gobierno de Panamá de la organización de las Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe que estaban programados para realizarse en ese país en 2022.
También informó sobre la creación de 11 comisiones de trabajo, las cuales serán presididas por cada uno de los miembros de la Junta Ejecutiva de la ODECABE para que «no sean solo nombres, sino funcionales ante los miembros».
Durante la Asamblea General Extraordinaria, las Comisiones de Educación, Legal y Nuevas Ciudades Sede, esta última presidida por Sara Rosario (PUR), entregaron un breve informe a los delegados de los países miembros, sobre el trabajo que vienen realizando durante la pandemia.
Otro detalle que se discutió en la reunión virtual fue la imagen corporativa de ODECABE.
En la Asamblea, Alain Sorèze, Presidente del Comité Olímpico Regional de Guadalupe, explicó brevemente los avances de los I Juegos del Caribe que se realizarán en esa isla en 2021, al igual que Henry Núñez (CRC), Presidente de la Organización Deportiva Centroamericana (ORDECA), referente a los XII Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos en Santa Tecla.
Neven Ilic (CHI), presidente de Panam Sports, fue invitado a asistir y ofreció palabras de apoyo y éxito continuo a los miembros de la ODECABE.
«La mejor manera que vamos a tener para poder enfrentar los desafíos que tenemos hoy es con unidad, apoyo. No hay otra forma», dijo Ilic a la Asamblea.
El mandatario concluyó la actividad con un mensaje de seguir trabajando para fortalecer y unir a la ODECABE, dejando claro que los esfuerzos de la Junta Ejecutiva son montar los Juegos, principal activo de la organización, en 2022.

Mejía: «CACSO’s Executive Board continues to work in these times»

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, August 17, 2020.- The president of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO), Luis Mejía (DOM), declared before the Extraordinary General Assembly, convened on Saturday, August 15, 2020, that the organization has not stopped working despite of the health situation that the world is experiencing with the coronavirus.
This statement was expressed by the organization’s top executive, through the ZOOM virtual platform, to all the delegates representing the CACSO member countries.
Mejía reported that since before the start of the pandemic, the Executive Board has worked remotely through the different virtual platforms together with the national Olympic Committees, to give a signal of unity to the athletes of the member countries of the organization.
Among the points discussed during the extraordinary session, Mejía reported that the Legal Commission, chaired by Christopher Samuda (JAM), is working on the steps that CACSO must take in relation to the withdrawal of the Government of Panama for the organization of the Central American and Caribbean Games that were scheduled to take place in that country in 2022.
He also reported on the creation of 11 working commissions, which will be chaired by each of the members of the CACSO Executive Board so that «they are not just names, but functional before the members».
During the Extraordinary General Assembly, the Education, Legal and New Host Cities Commissions, the latter chaired by Sara Rosario (PUR), delivered a brief report to the delegates of the member countries, on the work they have been doing during the pandemic.
Another detail that was discussed in the virtual meeting was the corporate image of CACSO.
At the Assembly, Alain Sorèze, President of the Guadalupe Regional Olympic Committee, briefly explained the progress of the I Caribbean Games that will be held on that island in 2021, as did Henry Núñez (CRC), President of the Central American Sports Organization (ORDECA), referring to the XII Central American Sports Games in Santa Tecla.
Neven Ilic (CHI), President of Panam Sports, was invited to attend and offered words of support and continued success to CACSO members.
«The best way we are going to have to face the challenges we have today is with unity, support. There is no other way» Ilic told the Assembly.
The president concluded the activity with a message to continue working to strengthen and unite CACSO, making it clear that the efforts of the Executive Board are to make the Games, the organization’s main asset, in 2022.
