London (dpa) – Manchester City completed the signing of Germany striker Leroy Sane from Schalke on Tuesday.
Sane signed a five-year contract, the Premier League club said on their website without disclosing the transfer fee.
German media reports said City paid Schalke 48 million Euros (53.6 million dollars), which could rise to 55 million with bonus payments, for the 20-year-old.
«He has great technical ability, is comfortable on the ball and there is much to admire about the way he plays football,» manager Pep Guardiola said on City’s website.
«He is fast, enjoys creating chances for others, works hard for the team and scores goals, too.
«At 20, he is still developing as a player but he is already a member of the German national side and I think he will be a fantastic asset to our club.»
Sane admitted the chance to play for Guardiola was a reason for his move to England.
«I know I will learn a lot under him and now I can take the next step in my career,» he said.
«I followed Pep at Barcelona and at Bayern where he achieved a lot and worked really well with young players.
«I think he can make me a more complete player.»
Sane scored 11 goals in 47 Bundesliga games for Schalke after making his debut in April 2014.
He was called up to the German national team for the first time in November and has made four appearances, including coming on as a substitute during the semi-final defeat to France at Euro 2016.
Sane is Guardiola’s fourth senior signing of the summer following Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
