BOGOTÁ, Colombia, 22 de octubre de 2017.- La Asociación Mundial de Boxeo (AMB), primer organismo en regir el pugilismo mundial, realizará del 30 octubre al 2 de noviembre, su 96ª Convención Mundial la cual se desarrollará en Medellín, Colombia, una de las ciudades referentes en América Latina, en cuanto a progreso social y cultural se refiere. Este encuentro reunirá lo más destacado en dirigencia, ciencia, juzgamiento, arbitraje y entrenamiento en representación de los cinco continentes y contará con seminarios técnico-científicos dedicados en esta oportunidad a la parte médica y al periodismo, con el único objetivo de mostrar las virtudes que tiene este deporte; y en cuanto a la parte interna de la Asociación se tendrán seminarios para jueces y árbitros y además se tocarán temas relacionados con el reglamento, el ranking mundial y la actividad anual.

El seminario para jueces y árbitros es de vital importancia en las convenciones pues acá se debatirá acerca del conocimiento que se tiene para evaluar un combate, para esto, se apoyarán en la revisión de las peleas más polémicas del presente año, con el fin de mejorar cada día la calidad en los combates tanto de título mundial como nacionales o regionales. En la parte médica, la Convención tendrá como expositores principales a miembros de la Asociación Voluntaria Antidopaje (VADA), pues el objetivo en este tema es hablar del aspecto de género, la cineantropometría (disciplina que estudia el cuerpo humano mediante medidas y evaluaciones en cuanto a peso, tamaño, forma, maduración biológica y funciones corporales) y la lucha contra el dopaje; sus consecuencias, toma de muestras y pruebas pre y post competencia serán temas por analizar. Igualmente, médicos especialistas hablarán de la seguridad en el boxeo.

Pero la Convención va más allá, incluyendo de manera directa a los periodistas, pues muchos en el país dan noticias de boxeo, pero pocos son los que realmente conocen el deporte, siendo ésta una gran oportunidad para capacitarlos en un deporte que en Colombia ha sido orgullo nacional. Y para esto nada mejor que tener en escena a Albero Salcedo Ramos, ‘campeón mundial del periodismo’ como lo nombran los organizadores de la Convención. La prensa no solo de Medellín sino del país y los estudiantes, -gracias al convenio con la Universidad de Antioquia-, tendrán la oportunidad de presenciar la entrevista a uno de los grandes del pugilismo, Óscar De La Hoya, con el toque especial de Alberto Salcedo Ramos quien seguramente dejará una gran enseñanza para las nuevas generaciones que quieran dedicarse al periodismo deportivo.

EL CAMPEÓN VISITA TU COMUNA

Como parte integral del desarrollo de esta Convención, la AMB dedicará parte del tiempo en la ciudad de Medellín, para visitar las comunas junto a los campeones quienes hablarán a los más jóvenes desde su experiencia y cómo lograron llegar a ser estrellas en este deporte, gracias al proyecto “El Campeón Visita tu Comuna”. Este será un programa que iniciará durante la Convención pero que se extenderá con el objetivo de mejorar las condiciones de entrenamiento de quienes comienzan en este deporte. Con esta convención en Medellín, quedará demostrado que el “boxeo es un vehículo de superación social desde todo punto de vista” AMB.

PELEA POR EL Título Mundial

La velada central de la 96ª Convención de Boxeo se realizará el 1 de noviembre y tendrá la disputa por el Título Mundial entre la venezolana Mayerlín Rivas, monarca de las 118 libras y la colombiana Dayanna Cordero, campeona interina en la categoría Gallo de la AMB. Además, la cartelera boxística contará con otros combates para el deleite del público y que promete ser la más importante de los últimos años, destacándose la pelea entre el argentino Fabián Maidana y el venezolano Johan Pérez, ex campeón mundial, quienes disputarán el título AMB-Fedebol del peso Welter.

Las dos boxeadoras ya se encuentran en Medellín y al preguntarle por su rival, la local Cordero comentó: “La verdad mis ansias son subirme al ring, verle la cara no me interesa mucho, debemos realizar eventos juntas así que toca verla antes de pelear”. Rivas por su parte ha dicho que “todo ha salido como hemos querido mi entrenador y yo, venimos a hacer la última parte de la preparación, estamos bajando las cargas y, bueno, ansiosa por ya subirme al cuadrilátero”

KID PAMBELE

Como acto especial la AMB le rendirá un tributo a Antonio ‘Kid’ Pambele, campeón mundial del Peso Welter Junior en la década de los 70’s. Su primer título fue en Panamá el 28 de octubre de 1972 al vencer en 10 asaltos a Alfonso “Pepermint” Frazer y el segundo lo logró el 25 de junio de 1977 venciendo al argentino Carlos María Giménez, pelea que ganó por nocaut en 5 asaltos.

LOS INVITADOS ESPECIALES

La Convención tendrá la presencia del Óscar De la Hoya, el “Golden Boy” como se le conoce desde que ganó la medalla de oro en los Juegos Olímpicos de Barcelona 1992, De La Hoya tendrá a su cargo uno de los eventos principales para la comunidad, en el que dictará una clínica a jóvenes que practican el boxeo y será entrevistado por Alberto Salcedo Ramos en el evento dedicado a los periodistas y estudiantes. De La Hoya ganó diez títulos en seis divisiones durante su carrera deportiva, Súper Pluma-OMB, Ligero-OMB, Ligero-FIB, Súper Ligero-CMB, Wélter-CMB (2 veces), Súper Welter-CMB, Súper Welter-AMB y Mediano-OMB.

El estadounidense Bernard Hopkins campeón del Peso Mediano durante 10 años y reconocido también como uno de los mejores de todos los tiempos será otro de los invitados de honor; un boxeador con una interesante historia y quien logró con el boxeo un cambio radical en su vida, pues en su juventud vivió entre la delincuencia, pero después de todo llegó a convertirse con 46 años, en el campeón más veterano de la historia. Además, es uno de los dos boxeadores que conquistó al mismo tiempo y en una misma división, los títulos de los 4 organismos más importantes de este deporte, AMB, CMB, OMB y FIB.

Evander Holyfield, también estará presente en la 96ª Convención en Medellín. El estadounidense cuatro veces campeón mundial del Peso Pesado y del Peso Crucero, estará como ponente contando su vida en el pugilismo, sus logros y hablará además de como incentivar a los jóvenes que quieren ser boxeadores. Igualmente hará parte del programa “El Campeón Visita tu Comuna”. Holyfield fue el boxeador quien, en 1990 en la categoría de los Pesos Pesados, logró unificar el título de los tres entes más importantes del boxeo, al derrotar a James “Buster” Douglas.

El otro grande del boxeo mundial que estará en la Convención es el panameño Roberto “Manos de Piedra” Durán para muchos el mejor del Peso Ligero. Como buen boxeador, nació y creció en condiciones difíciles, pero gracias al boxeo se convirtió no solo en un campeón sino en un ejemplo de superación. “Manos de Piedra” también hará parte del proyecto “El Campeón Visita tu Comuna” con lo que se busca acercar el boxeo a la gente.

96TH WORLD BOXING CONVENTION, WITH A SOCIAL SENSE

BOGOTÁ, Colombia, October 22^th 2017.- The World Boxing Association (WBA), first body to govern Boxing in the world, will hold from the 30^th October to 2^nd November its 96^th World Convention in Medellín, Colombia, one of the most important cities in Latin-America in terms of social and culture progress. This meeting will bring together the best in leadership, science, judging and training on behalf of the five continents, it will have technical-scientific seminars dedicated to medicine and journalism, with a main aim of showing the virtues this sport has; it will be also seminars for judges and referees, as well as talks related with regulations, world ranking and the annual activities.

The judges and referee’s seminar is important because it will closely discuss the knowledge they have at the moment to evaluate a fight, for this, they will review the most controversial fights during the year, aiming to improve the quality of the fights no just for World Titles but National and local ones. In the medicine area, the Convention will have as main expositors members of the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, the main topics will be gender aspects, cineanthropometry (the study of the human body through measures and evaluations such as weight, size, shape, biological maturation and body functions) and the fight against doping; its consequences, samples and pre and post tests will be topics to be analyzed. Also, experts will talk about safety in boxing.

But the Convention goes furthermore, and it will include in a direct way the sports journalists, as many in the country deliver the news about boxing but not many really knows it, being this a wonderful opportunity to teach them about sport that has been National Proud for Colombians. And fort his nothing better than to have Alberto Salcedo Ramos on stage the ‘World Journalist Champion’ as it has been called by the organizers. No just the Medellín Press, but the whole country and students -thanks to the agreement with the University of Antioquia- will have the opportunity to see the interview to one of the greatest boxers in history, Óscar De La Hoya, with the special Alberto Salcedo Ramos touch who surely will leave a great teaching for the new generations who would like to become Sports Journalists.

THE CHAMPION VISITS YOUR COMMUNE

As part of the Convention, the WBA will dedicate some time in Medellín to visit the communes along with the champions, whose will give a talk to the youngest from their experience and how they became stars in this sport, all this thanks to the project “The Champion Visits Your Commune”. This will be a program that will start during the Convention but that will be extend with the clear aim of improving the training conditions of those who are starting practicing Box. With the convention in Medellín it will be demonstrated that “boxing is a way of social improvements from all points of view” AMB.

WORLD TITLE FIGHT

The main fight of the 96^th World Convention will be on the November 1st which will have the dispute of the World Title between the Venezuelan Mayerlín Rivas the absolute 118 pounds Champion and the Colombian Dayanna Cordero interim Bantamweight Champion. Also, the night will feature other bouts to the delight of the public, which promises to be the most important in recent years, highlighting the fight between Argentinean Fabian Maidana and Venezuelan Johan Perez, former World Champion, who fight for the AMB- Welterweight Fedebol Title.

The two women fighters are already in Medellín and when questioned about the opponent, Cordero said: “To be honest my anxieties are to get in the ring, see her face I am not very interested, we have several events together so I will have to see her before the fight”. Rivas on the other hand said: “All has gone as we have wanted my coach and I, we came to do our last part of the preparation, we are lowering the training and well, I am anxious for getting in the ring”.

KID PAMBELE

As a special event, the WBA will pay a tribute to Antonio ‘Kid’ Pambele, World Welterweight Champion at the 70’s. His first title was in Panamá on October 28^th 1972 after beating Alfonso ‘Pepermint’ Frazer in 10 rounds and the second title was on June 25^th 1977 when by knockout in 5 rounds he defeated the Argentinian Carlos María Giménez.

SPECIAL GUESTS

The Convention will be attended by Óscar De La Hoya, known as the “Golden boy” since he won the gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics Games 1992. De La Hoya will host one of the most important events for the community, given a chat to youngers who practice boxing and also, he will be interviewed by Alberto Salcedo Ramos in the Journalists and students event. De La Hoya won 10 titles in 6 classes: Super Featherweight-WBO, Lightweight-WBO, Lightweight-IBF, Super Lightweight-WBC, Welterweight-WBC (2 times), Super Welterweight-WBC, Super Welterweight-WBA y Middleweight-WBO.

The North-American Bernard Hopkins Middleweight Champion for 10 years and recognized as one of the best of all times will be among the special guests; a boxer with a very interesting life story and who through Box got a radical but positive change in his life, as in his youth years he lived between delinquency, but after all he also got to became at age of 46, the oldest champion in history. He is as well one of the two who conquered at the same time and in the same division the titles at the 4 most important organizations of this sports WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF.

Evander Holyfield Will also attend the 96^th Convention in Medellín. The Nort-American four-time World Champion Heavyweight and Cruiserweight will joint as speaker talking about his life in boxing, his achievements, and will also talk about how to encourage young guys who wants to be boxers. Holyfield was the one who in 1990 at the Heavyweight got to unify the title of the three most important bodies of boxing after defeating James “Buster” Douglas and in Medellín will be part of the project “The Champion Visits Your Commune”.

The other great boxer in the world who will be at the Convention is the Panamanian Roberto “Stone Hands” Duran, for many, the best at Lightweight in the world history. As a good boxer, he was born and raised in difficult conditions, but thanks to Box he became no just a champion but an overcoming example “Stone Hands” or “Manos de Piedra” in Spanish, also will be part of the “The Champion Visits Your Commune” a project that sights to bring box to people.
