NUEVA YORK, 7 de noviembre 2013 – El hombre más rápido del planeta, Usain Bolt, de Jamaica, quiere seguir acelerando y correr los 200 metros planos en menos de 19 segundos, posiblemente ya en 2014.

Bolt, en su autobiografía «Más rápido que un rayo», que llegó a las estanterías el martes pasado, dijo que el logro de ese hito significaría tener una temporada «perfecta», similar a sus hazañas del 2008.
El velocista jamaicano cree que lograr esa hazaña significaría más que ganar medallas en los próximos Juegos Olímpicos.
«Supongamos que yo no hago el tiempo más rápido en los 100 metros, me encantaría ser capaz de correr en 18 y pico de segundos en los 200 metros, aunque fuera un crono de 18.99. Olvídate de las próximas Olimpiadas y las medallas, romper ese tiempo sería el éxito más grande. Adoraría romperlo, sabiendo que las personas se sentarán en sus casas y perderán el juicio por mi logro,» describió en su libro de 291 páginas.
«Para llegar a ese paso histórico, necesitaría tener la temporada perfecta, como la que tuve en el ’08. Creo que el próximo año podría ser mi oportunidad, aunque la ventana de oportunidades se está reduciendo con cada campaña. Cuanto más viejo me hago, más estrecha se vuelve esa ventana, más difícil es mi posibilidad de alcanzar la aptitud pico a tiempo para una carrera importante”.
Sin embargo, dijo que dado lo que ha hecho en el pasado, y que es no para descartar culminar su carrera en la pista con otro récord mundial. Señaló que él mismo es el único obstáculo para su progreso.
«No creo que esté totalmente fuera del alcance en la próxima temporada algo así. ¿En serio, quén se sorprendería si lo hago? ¿Quién va a impedirme ir rápido? El único hombre que puede poner fin a mi estatus como una estrella de la pista en el próximo par de años soy yo, y yo soy un fenómeno, un competidor serio, una leyenda para mi generación. Créame, mis tiempos no están altos en este momento», advirtió.
En su autobiografía completa, Bolt cuenta su historia en sus propias palabras, desde sus humildes comienzos en Jamaica, al estrellato internacional incluyendo los Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing y Londres.
Bolt se convirtió en el primer hombre en la historia olímpica en ganar los 100 y 200 metros en tiempos de récord mundial en 2008, y grabó su nombre en la historia cuatro años después al convertirse en el primer hombre en ganar el doblete en dos juegos olímpicos consecutivos, así como el establecimiento de tres récords mundiales en un mismo Juego Olímpico.
Hay dudas sobre si Bolt podrá repetir estas actuaciones en los Juegos de Río de Janeiro en 2016. Bolt, por su parte, no está demasiado preocupado por el enorme reto y la expectativa especialmente con la nueva generación de velocistas jóvenes y talentosos en Jamaica. Dijo que sólo piensar en tratar de llegar a Brasil ya le da la chispa, pese a su edad.
«Si hay una posibilidad de que pudiera hacerlo, entonces yo voy a dar todo lo que tengo. He hablado con el entrenador (Glen Mills) respecto a nuestras posibilidades, y hemos discutido la situación con sensatez examinado algunos de los otros atletas que nos rodean. Estaré rondando los 30 (años), cuando Brasil se acerque».
«Algunos han corrido con tiempos de 9,80, 9,90 segundos a esa edad. Si yo me ocupo de mi cuerpo y si puedo esforzarme hasta el límite, entonces yo no dudo de mi capacidad para hacer 9,60 segundos en 2016 . La cosa importante para mí es aterrizar allí y competir a un alto nivel. Al menos podré decir: «Yo lo intenté, yo tengo una de plata, una de bronce, lo que sea. Yo tuve la oportunidad y lo intenté. «Imagínese si me las arreglo para ganar el oro, sin embargo», dijo.
Dijo que si no está en la cima de su juego en 2016 entonces él quiere convertirse a otro deporte, preferentemente el fútbol.
Por ahora, quiero correr tan rápido como pueda y ser el mejor en el mundo. Cuando termine con el atletismo voy a cambiar de deporte y seguir adelante. Si no puedo competir al más alto nivel en 2016, entonces quiero echarle mano a otro juego – fútbol, ??lo más probable, porque puedo jugar, y con esfuerzo suficiente puedo mejorar».
Escrito por el galardonado escritor deportivo Matt Allen, la autobiografía también reconoció a muchas de las personas que han apoyado a Bolt en su camino al estrellato.
Se refirió a la influencia de Mills y los ex entrenadores Pablo McNeil y Fitz Coleman, su director ejecutivo, y su viejo amigo Nugent «NJ» Walker Jr, el agente Ricky Simms y su equipo de gestión, incluyendo a Norman Peart.

Usain Bolt wants to break the 19 seconds barrier in 2014

NEW YORK, November 7, 2013 – The fastest man on the planet, Usain Bolt of Jamaica, wants to keep running and run the 200 metres in under 19 seconds and possibly as early as 2014.
Bolt, writing in his autobiography «Faster Than Lightning» and which went on bookshelves on Tuesday, said that achieving that landmark would mean having a ‘perfect’ season, similar to his exploits in 2008.
The Jamaican speedster believes achieving that feat would mean more than winning medals at the next Olympic Games.
«Supposing I don’t make any quicker times in the 100, I would love to be able to run 18-something seconds in the 200, even if it was an 18.99 race. Forget making the next Olympics and the medals, breaking that time would be an ever bigger success. I’d love to crack it, knowing that people were sitting in their homes and losing their minds at my achievement,» he scribed in his 291-page book.
«To reach that landmark pace, I would need to have the perfect season, like the one I had in ’08. I think next year could be my shot at it, though the window of opportunity is getting smaller with every campaign. The older I get, the narrower that window becomes; the harder it is form me to reach peak fitness in time for a major race.
However, he said that given what he has done in the past, he is not ruling out rounding off his track career with another world record, noting that he is the only obstacle to his progress.
«I don’t think it’s totally out of reach in the next season or so. Seriously, who would be surprised if I did it? Who’s going to stop me from going fast? The only man who can bring an end to my status as a star of track and field in the next couple of years is me, and I’m a phenomenon, a serious competitor – a legend for my generation. Believe me, my time isn’t’ up just yet,» he warned.
In his full autobiography, Bolt tells his story in his own words – from humble beginnings in Jamaica, to international stardom including Olympic Games in Beijing and London.
Bolt became the first man in Olympic history to win both the 100m and 200m in world record times in 2008, and etched his name in history four years later by becoming the first man to win the sprint double at consecutive Olympic games as well as setting three world records in a single Olympic Games.
There are doubts as to whether Bolt could repeat these performances at the Rio Games in 2016. Bolt, for his part, is not too concerned about the huge challenge and expectation especially with the new crop of young and talented sprinters in Jamaica. He said that just thought of trying to get to Brazil is already giving him the spark, despite his age.
«If there’s a possibility that I might make it, then I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. I’ve talked to Coach (Glen Mills) about our chances, and we’ve discussed the situation sensibly by looking at some of the other athletes around us. I’ll be turning 30 when Brazil comes around.»
«Some guys in track and field have run times of 9.80, 9.90 seconds at that age. If I take care of my body and if I can push myself to the limits, then I don’t doubts my ability to make 9.60 seconds in 2016. The important thing for me is to land there and compete at a high level. At least then I’ll be able to say, ‘I attempted it, I got a silver, a bronze, whatever. I way in with a chance and I tried.’ Imagine if I managed to win gold, though. The parties in Rio would be off the scale,» he said.
He said that if he is not at the top of his game by 2016 then he want to turn to another sport, preferably football.
For now, I want to run as fast as I can and be the best in the world. When I finish with track and field I’ll change sports and move on. If I can’t race at the top level by 2016, then I want to turn my hand to another game – football, most probably, because I can play, and with enough effort I can get better.»
Authored by award-winning sport writer Matt Allen, the autobiography also acknowledged many of the people who have supported Bolt on his journey to stardom.
He cited the influence of Mills and former coaches Pablo McNeil and Fitz Coleman, his executive manager and long-time friend Nugent «NJ» Walker Jr, agent Ricky Simms and his management team including Norman Peart.
