Puerto España, Trinidad y Tobago, 19 de abril 2014.- Grenada será el lugar de celebración de la apertura de la Liga Premier del Caribe 2014 de cricket, según un informe publicado en el periódico Guardián de Trinidad y Tobago.

El periódico informó que los organizadores han decidido no ir a Canadá, que fue el anfitrión original de la apertura, debido a razones de logística y en su lugar permanecerán en el Caribe.
Tres países manifestaron su interés en acoger la ceremonia de inauguración y la primera ronda de partidos. Los países que manifestaron su disposición fueron Grenada, Barbados y Antigua, pero al final se eligió la Spice Isle. Será la primera ocasión en que partidos de CPL se jugarán en Granada, ya que ninguno se jugó allí en la temporada inaugural en 2013.
En cuanto a la estructura propuesta para el torneo de 2014, la ceremonia de apertura se prepara para el 11 de julio y en el mismo día Guyana Amazon Warriors se enfrentarán a Hawksbills de Antigua.
Al día siguiente, también en Granada, el T & T Red Steel abrirá su cuenta cuando se encuentre con los Barbados Tridents.
El segundo partido de ese día verá defendiéndose a los campeones Jamaica Tallawahs contra el St Lucia Zouks. Esto entonces marcará el final de la etapa de Granada de la serie y los equipos entonces disputarán los partidos en sus respectivos países, así como viajarán a las sedes de sus oponentes.
Red Steel jugará su segundo partido del torneo el 17 de julio contra los Guyana Amazon Warriors en el Estadio de Providence en Guyana. Luego saldrán a la carretera ya que tres días más tarde se enfrentarán a las Antigua Hawksbills en el Estadio Sir Vivian Richards en Antigua.

Grenada to host opening matches of 2014 CPL

Port of Spain, Trinidad&Tobago, April 19, 2014.– Grenada could be the venue for the opening of the 2014 Caribbean Premier League, according to a report in the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian newspaper.
The newspaper reported that the organisers have decided not to go to Canada, which was the original host of the opening, because of logistical reasons and will instead stay in the Caribbean.
Three countries stated an interest in hosting the opening ceremony and the first round of matches. The countries that indicated their willingness were Grenada, Barbados and Antigua but in the end the Spice Isle was chosen. It will mark the first occasion that CPL matches will be played in Grenada as none were played there in the inaugural season in 2013.
Looking at the proposed structure of the 2014 tournament, the opening ceremony is carded for July 11 and on the same day the Guyana Amazon Warriors will battle the Antigua Hawksbills.
The following day, also in Grenada, the T&T Red Steel will open their account when they come up against the Barbados Tridents.
The second match on that day will see the defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs against the St Lucia Zouks. This would then mark the end of the Grenada leg of the series and the teams will then host matches in their respective countries as well as travelling to their opponents’ venues.
Red Steel will play their second match of the tournament on July 17 against the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. They then hit the road three days later as they face off with
the Antigua Hawksbills at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
After this, the action switches to Trinidad where the Red Steel play their first home game against Amazon Warriors on July 24.
Two days later Red Steel battles Jamaica Tallawahs, also at the Queen’s Park Oval. And the following day the St Lucia Zouks come calling at the Oval.
On August 2, the Red Steel hits the road again when they make the trip to St Lucia to battle the Zouks at Beausejour. Five days later, Dwayne Bravo’s squad comes up against Tridents in St Kitts and conclude their
preliminary round play against the Antigua Hawksbills on August 9 also in St Kitts.
The first semifinal takes place on August 14, with the second on August 15 and the grand final on August 16, all in St Kitts.
