Berlin (dpa) – Borussia Moenchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has backed coach Andre Schubert to lead the team next season and says he does not understand why the media have been speculating on the subject.

«I have to ask myself why people keep coming back with these questions,» he Eberl told the Gladbach homepage Monday. «I thought that I made things very clear at the AGM three weeks ago, without even being asked.

«I had no idea that I would then have to keep repeating these statements. But after every game came these questions about the coach.

Gladbach are all but certain to finish the season fourth in the table and face a play-off to reach the Champions League after Schubert turned round a campaign which started with five consecutive losses under former coach Lucien Favre. No club has previously reached the European spots after losing the first five games.

«Whoever has followed our work in recent years will know that Andre Schubert will be our manager next season,» Eberl insisted.

Gladbach’s final match of the campaign is away to Darmstadt on Saturday.
