Munich (dpa) – World champions Germany will start their training camp for Euro 2016 a day later than originally planned, on May 24, the nation’s football federation said on Wednesday.
Coach Joachim Loew said in a statement the date was changed in the wake of Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final exit which now allows all players apart from Real Madrid Toni Kroos to start the camp in Ascona, Switzerland, at the same time.
The camp was originally to start on May 23, with the national team players from Munich and Borussia Dortmund, who contest the German cup final on May 21, to follow on May 24. With Munich now not represented in the Champions League final on May 28, Loew decided to start a day later to have everyone on board.
Kroos is in the Champions League final with Real Madrid and joins after the game in Milan.
Loew will name his provisional squad for the June 10-July 10 tournament in France on May 17 and must submit the final 23-man group to UEFA on May 31. The Ascona camp runs until May 24.
