BENIDORM, España, 5 de noviembre de 2017.- Por tercer año consecutivo, aquí en Benidorm, balneario situado a orillas del Mediterráneo y capital turística de la comunidad valenciana, dio comienzo la 71ª. edición del Campeonato Mundial de la Federación Internacional de Fisicoculturismo & Fitness (IFBB).

Con la novedosa categoría, “Men’s Physique” incluida por primera vez en el programa, más de 300 atletas de 70 países, pertenecientes a las Federaciones afiliadas a la IFBB están listos para sus competencias.
El presidente de la IFBB Dr. Rafael Santonja -actualmente cumple su tercer mandato como presidente de la IFBB, luego de haber sido reelegido en el Congreso de la IFBB en 2010 y 2014- expresó durante el primer día, dedicado al Congreso Mundial, su confianza en que podrán obtener finalmente el reconocimiento del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI).
“Somos una Federación en constante crecimiento dedicada a impulsar un estilo de vida sano, y calidad de vida, creo que merecemos el pleno reconocimiento olímpico», dijo Santonja. «Vamos a trabajar para lograrlo”, aclaró.
La IFBB se ha reunido periódicamente con el Presidente del COI,Thomas Bach, y es optimista en cuanto al futuro. “Estoy seguro de que vamos a tener buenas noticias pronto», expresó.
Entre los requisitos que la IFBB debe cumplir como parte de su solicitud final para el reconocimiento del COI se encuentra la creación de un Comité de Atletas. Esto ya fue aprobado durante el Congreso.
En la propuesta para la modificación de los Estatutos, y previo a la votación en el Congreso el Dr. Santonja explicó: «El Comité de Atletas debe ser dirigido por un atleta que está en competencia, un atleta que ha cumplido con ciertos requisitos». Esto va en el sentido de las directrices del COI.
El torneo está en pleno apogeo y la ciudad se llenó de Atletas para la competencia Mundial.

We deserve the Olympic recognition

BENIDORM, Spain, November 5, 2017.- For the third consecutive year, in this seaside resort located on the shores of the Mediterranean and the tourist capital of the Valencian community, I start the 71st. edition of the World Championship of the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB).
With the new category, «Men’s Physique» included for the first time in the program, more than 300 Athletes from 70 Countries, belonging to the Federations affiliated to the IFBB are ready for their competitions.
The president of the IFBB Dr. Rafael Santonja, who – currently fulfills his third mandate as president of the IFBB, after having been reelected in the Congress of the IFBB in 2010 and 2014 – expressed during the first day, dedicated to the World Congress, their confidence that they will finally be able to obtain the recognition of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
«We are a Federation in constant growth dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle, and quality of life, I think we deserve full Olympic recognition,» said Santonja. «We will work to achieve it,» he remarked.
The IFBB has met periodically with IOC President Thomas Bach and is optimist about the future. «I’m sure we’re going to have good news soon,» said Santonja.
Among the requirements that the IFBB must comply with, as part of its final request for the recognition of the IOC, is the creation of an Athletes Committee.
This was already approved during the Congress.
In the proposal for the amendment of the Statutes, and prior to the vote in Congress Dr. Santonja explained: «The Athletes Committee must be directed by an athlete who is in competition, an athlete who has met certain requirements.» This is in the sense of the IOC guidelines.
The tournament is in full swing and the city was filled with Athletes for the World competition.
