SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, 13 de noviembre de 2013.- La selección nacional de Costa Rica, que dirige el colombiano Jorge Luis Pinto, comienza oficialmente sus trabajos con miras a la Copa Mundo de la FIFA Brasil 2014, con un microciclo que inicia el 15 de noviembre y finaliza tras el partido ante Australia, el 19 de noviembre, en Sidney.

El 7 de noviembre Pinto convocó, para el primer partido en la historia del fútbol tico en tierras australianas, la base de jugadores que lograron la clasificación a Brasil, al mismo tiempo se presentaron tres grandes novedades: Carlos Hernández, Kenny Cunningham y Jonathan McDonald.
El “Zorro” Hernández, quien militó por varios años en el fútbol australiano, ahora es ficha del Wellington Phoenix de Nueva Zelanda. Al igual que el “Zorro”, regresa a un llamado de Pinto, Cunningham, compañero de Hernández en el Wellington. El tercer nombre que sorprende en la convocatoria es McDonald del Kalmar de Suecia, otro que regresa a la libreta personal del timonel colombiano para quien “ningún futbolista tiene las puertas cerradas de cara a Brasil 2014”, según dijo.
El amistoso, primero después de haber clasificado a Brasil 2014, será el 19 de noviembre a las 02:30 de la madrugada, hora de Costa Rica. En la agenda de la Fedefutbol están dos fogueos más, ante Corea del Sur y Chile, todavía sin confirmar. Pinto pidió ocho partidos clase A ante selecciones clasificadas a Brasil como mínimo antes del inicio del Mundial.

FOOTBALL: Costa Rica begins the warm up phase towards the World Cup Brazil 2014
