MIAMI, U.S. (December 20, 2023) — The athletes of the Americas now have a new leader who will head the Panam Sports Athlete Commission for the next four years. The new Athlete Commission President is Isabel Swan, an outstanding Brazilian athlete specializing in sailing. Among her outstanding achievements in her sports career are a bronze medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics in the 470 class, two World Military Sailing Championship titles, making the Olympic finals at Rio 2016, two South American Championship titles in the Nacra-17 and 470 sailing classes, as well as placing in the Top 10 in seven Olympic Sailing World Championships, among others. After taking a break from high-performance sport, Isabel has resumed training and is now focused on qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the 470 class with Henrique Haddad. However, the Olympics will not be her only challenge this year following her unanimous election as the President of the Panam Sports Athlete Commission after four years of serving on the commission. “It is an honor for me to have been chosen as President of the Panam Sports Athlete Commission. I am happy, I know that it is a great responsibility, and I know the importance of having our voice and representation stronger on the American continent. Thank you very much for the support, we are prepared for this four-year cycle to give a lot of work, effort and determination and with the certainty that we will achieve many things as well,” said Isabel Swan. “Isabel is a tremendous athlete and she has always shown an important commitment to representing the athletes of the continent. The Panam Sports Athlete Commission is made up of the new President Isabel Swan (Brazil), and the members Valentina Toro (Chile), German Chiaraviglio (Argentina), Melissa Mojica (Puerto Rico), Paola Longoria (Mexico), Melissa Humana-Paredes (Canada), Anthony Azevedo (United States), Amber Joseph (Barbados) and Danusia Francis-Reid (Jamaica). The appointment of another male member is still pending, which will be determined in the coming weeks. |
