LUQUE, Paraguay, 15 de abril del 2021.– Una gran noticia recibieron los equipos participantes en los torneos del fútbol profesional sudamericano de primera categoría, tanto masculinos como femeninos entre los que están la Copa América, la Copa Libertadores y la Copa Sudamericana,  por medio de Alejandro Domínguez, Presidente de la Conmebol quien confirmó oficialmente que la empresa china Sinovac Biotech Ltd donará a la Conmebol un total de 50.000 dosis de su vacuna contra el COVID-19, las cuales estarían disponibles en mayo de 2021.

La noticia se recibe con beneplácito en la parte sur del continente americano, luego que hace unos días, la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) informara que Suramérica era la región más preocupante del mundo por el aumento de contagios y muertes a causa del Covid-19 y donde no se estaba accediendo de manera equitativa a las vacunas.

El Presidente Domínguez además expresó su gratitud al presidente uruguayo, Luis Lacalle Pou; al secretario de la Presidencia, Álvaro Delgado; al Ministro de Deportes, Sebastián Bauzá, al Embajador de Uruguay en China, Fernando Lugris y al Presidente de la Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol, Ignacio Alonso, quienes intervinieron eficazmente para que esto fuera una realidad, y un acto sin precedente no solo en el futbol sino en el deporte mundial.

“Es la mejor noticia que puede recibir la familia del fútbol sudamericano, a la que debemos nuestros mejores esfuerzos en la CONMEBOL. Es un paso adelante enorme para vencer a la pandemia de COVID-19, pero no significa de ningún modo que vayamos a bajar la guardia. Mantendremos nuestro trabajo responsable, el que nos permitió concluir nuestros torneos sin contratiempos y sin alterar los formatos” y agregó, “agradezco este gran gesto de solidaridad y de apoyo de la empresa Sinovac que comprendió que el fútbol es una actividad fundamental para la economía, la cultura y la salud física y mental de los sudamericanos”.

LAS VACUNAS

Aunque no se ha detallado la prioridad en la que se distribuirán estas vacunas, los equipos estarán a la espera, las vacunas serían principalmente para futbolistas, entrenadores y árbitros de los equipos que hagan parte de las competiciones continentales.

Sin embargo, según entrevista con la CNN, el Presidente Domínguez confirmó que la vacuna no será obligatoria para los jugadores “Esa política se está armando ahora, pero yo veo inviable que se obligue a nadie a vacunar, no lo veo viable, esta es una opción más que damos dentro de este protocolo sanitario” ver respuesta completa acá https://cnn.it/3a5utYk

CONMEBOL RECEIVES DONATION OF VACCINES AGAINST COVID-19

LUQUE, Paraguay, April 15, 2021.- Great news was received by the teams participating in the first category of the South American professional football tournaments, both male and female, including the Copa América, the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, by Alejandro Domínguez, President of Conmebol who officially confirmed that the company Sinovac Biotech Ltd will donate a total of 50,000 doses of its COVID-19 vaccine to CONMEBOL, which would be available in May 2021.

The news is welcomed in the southern part of the American continent, as after a few days ago, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported that South America was the most worrying region in the world due to the increase in infections and deaths by Covid -19 and where vaccines are not being equitably accessed.

President Domínguez also expressed his gratitude to the Uruguayan President, Luis Lacalle Pou; the President Secretary, Álvaro Delgado; to the Minister of Sports, Sebastián Bauzá, to the Ambassador of Uruguay in China, Fernando Lugris and to the President of the Uruguayan Football Association – AUF, Ignacio Alonso, who intervened effectively to make this a reality, and an unprecedented act not only in football but also in the world sport.

“It is the best news that the South American football family can receive, to which we owe our best efforts at CONMEBOL. This is a huge step forward in defeating the COVID-19 pandemic, but it does not mean that we are putting our guard down. We will maintain our responsible work, which allowed us to conclude our tournaments smoothly and without modifying the formats» and added, «I appreciate this great demonstration of solidarity and support from the Sinovac company, which understood that football is a fundamental activity for the economy, culture and physical and mental health of South Americans”.

VACCINES

Although the priority in which these vaccines will be distributed has not been detailed, the teams will be waiting, the vaccines would be mainly for football players, coaches and referees of the teams that are part of the continental competitions.
