Élida Párraga de Álvarez, la mujer que con su glamour, inteligencia y belleza defiende el Movimiento Olímpico como a sí misma.»La Dama del Olimpismo», nació un 26 de septiembre en La Pereña, cerca de Valle de la Pascua, en el estado Guárico.

¿Cuántos años tiene? Hay que a una dama no se le pregunta su edad. Párraga, siempre portando la elegancia, figura en la directiva del Comité Olímpico Venezolano (COV). Ella es la responsable de llevar las riendas de la Secretaría General de dicha organización.Desde 1988, tras el llamado del Presidente del Comité Olímpico Venezolano de ese entonces, Fernando Romero, la Dra. Élida está presente en cada acto y reunión del ciclo olímpico.En tacones o en zapatos deportivos, Párraga nunca pierde su glamour, pues destaca que la imagen del dirigente debe ser agradable para el mundo. «Desde mi infancia me gusta estar bien presentada. Cuidar la imagen es fundamental, nos representa», expresa.De la odontología al deporteOrganizada, es otra de las palabras que la define. Élida es graduada en odontología y además, la primera mujer venezolana en convertirse jefa de misión durante tres oportunidades.Entre sus planes no se encontraba llegar a ser una referencia del olimpismo. Su historia con el deporte se empezó a escribir en el Club de Natación Velódromo, en La Vega, cuando inscribió a uno de sus hijos.Tras las necesidades que existían en la escuela, buscaba resolver esos problemas que impedían el progreso de las jóvenes promesas del deporte en Venezuela. Primero, se convirtió en tesorera y luego llegó a la Federación venezolana de Deportes Acuáticos a continuar su labor.Con la misión de impulsar al deporte venezolano, logró fundar el Salón de la Fama de natación y consiguió realizar el campeonato Centroamericano y del Caribe con cuatro deportes (Polo, Nado Sincronizado, Natación y Clavados), el cual se convirtió en el segundo evento más publicitado en Caracas, después de los Juegos Panamericanos.GuerreraLa palabra luchadora le encaja a la perfección. La Dra. Élida es el vivo ejemplo de persistencia, entusiasmo e inspiración. Ha sido desde tesorera hasta Vicepresidenta del COV, y en una oportunidad, estuvo a punto de inclinarse por la presidencia, pero la enfermedad del cáncer la detuvo.Aunque Párraga estaba en proceso de quimioterapia, no se rindió y siguió apoyando y apostando por el movimiento olímpico de la mano del actual presidente del COV, Profesor Eduardo Álvarez. Actualmente continúa defendiendo los principios y valores del Barón Pierre de Coubertin.»Me hubiera gustado, llegar a la presidencia. Cuando Eduardo Álvarez propuso su candidatura lo apoyé, y les dije a todos que había que apoyarlo. Él me abrió las puertas para quedarme y acepté», puntualizó.Ejemplo a seguirÉlida es referencia. Además de ser la encargada de la Academia Olímpica Venezolana, es Canciller de la Organización Deportiva Bolivariana (ODEBO) y Miembro de la Comisión de Mujer de Panam Sports.Su labor de más de 30 años en pro del deporte, le ha concedido grandes reconocimientos, entre ellos se destaca el otorgado por el Presidente del Comité Olímpico Internacional, Thomas Bach y del Presidente de Panam Sports, Neven Ilic, gracias a su infinita colaboración al Movimiento Olímpico de las Américas.»Fue uno de los días más bellos que he vivido en todo este tiempo ligada al deporte, son más de cuarenta años en el Movimiento Olímpico», concretó. —
