PEREIRA, Colombia, 2 de abril de 2019.- Hacía apenas una semana que Rafael Henzel había terminado una gira por Bilbao en España y Berlín en Alemania, sitios a los que fue invitado para la proyección de un video que documentaba el accidente y la reconstrucción del Club Chapecoense. Nosso Chape, en el festival Thinking football.
El periodista de Radio Oeste Capital de la ciudad de Chapecó, se había convertido en un testimonio genuino como sobreviviente del siniestro aéreo del 28 de noviembre de 2016. El sitio: Cerro Gordo Antioquia. Allí murieron 71 personas, incluyendo la casi totalidad del Chapecoense que llegaba para disputar la final de la Copa Suramericana frente al Atlético Nacional.
Por esas cosas que calificamos como caprichos del destino el comunicador brasileño fue una de las seis personas que se salvaron tras la caída del avión de Lamia. Ellos fueron tres futbolistas, un mecánico de aviación, una auxiliar de vuelo, y un periodista, el único entre los 22 comunicadores viajeros quien logró salvarse. “Cuando desperté me sentí muy extraño en la silla del avión colgada de un árbol, y miré a los dos colegas que venían a mi lado ya sin vida. Tras pedir ayuda fui asistido en medio de la lluvia y un tremendo frío”; contaría luego Henzel, agradeciendo a los rescatistas y paramédicos.

¿Por qué un periodista entre los sobrevivientes?
El mundo fue conmovido por la tragedia aquel 28 de noviembre. Dos días después la cancha del estadio Atanasio Girardot que esperaba a los 22 protagonistas de la final fallida, fue ocupada por una tarima dispuesta para los discursos en el homenaje póstumo a los caídos. Y las tribunas del escenario deportivo fueron abarrotadas por un público que entre lágrimas y cánticos buscaba una explicación a lo sucedido.
Atlético Nacional pidió a la Conmebol que el título de la Copa Suramericana 2016 fuera entregado al Club Chapecoense. Allí quedó sellada una amistad y hermandad entre dos pueblos. Igualmente quedó planteado un nuevo duelo entre ambos equipos. La disputa de la Recopa Sudamericana.
Pasaron pocos meses y por fin se jugó el partido. En medio de manifestaciones de gratitud del pueblo de Chapecó, la delegación verdolaga jugó el compromiso de ida el 4 de abril de 2017. El equipo local denominado como el Verdao se impuso por 2 a 1. La vuelta fue programada en Medellín para el 5 de mayo de 2017.

La cita con la historia
El pequeño club Chapecoense estaba intentado la reconstrucción del equipo que fue fundado en 1973 ya que en la tragedia de Cerro Gordo también perdió a sus dirigentes. Los tres futbolistas y el periodista que lograron sobrevivir llegaron con la delegación. Y junto a ellos sus familias. La visita al sitio del accidente fue como abrir de nuevo la herida.
La voz y la imagen de Rafael Henzel se hizo muy familiar en los medios colombianos, y llamó más la atención cuando manifestó que en nuestro territorio había vuelto a nacer. En su red social de twitter pregonaba que sus fechas de nacimiento eran el 25 de agosto de 1973 en Brasil, y el 29 de noviembre de 2016 en Colombia.
Rafael Henzel se convirtió en el mejor pregonero de la nueva vida del modesto club del sur del país de la Samba. Los seis rescatados del avión siniestrado fueron entrevistados por diversos medios del mundo, pero quien se mantuvo vigente y con gran visibilidad fue Henzel por su actividad como relator deportivo. Chapecoense jugó la Copa Suruga en Japón, reservada al Campeón de la Copa Suramericana. Allí estuvo narrando Rafael Henzel.
El relator deportivo publicó en 2017 el libro: “Viva como si estuviera de partida”, obra donde relató su odisea y dejó mensajes de vida. Fue invitado a conferencias, exposiciones, y visitó diversos sitios donde se convirtió en un embajador de su ciudad y su equipo. El comunicador sobreviviente. El pregonero. Qué cosas bien extrañas tiene la vida. Nuestro colega llevó el mensaje del resurgimiento del Chapecoense durante los últimos 28 meses. Y cerró con broche de oro su tarea en España y Alemania en la presentación del documental NOSSO Chape hace pocos días.

Su muerte
Al regresar a su país, lo sorprendió la muerte por un infarto fulminante en contacto con lo que tanto quería: el fútbol. ¿Misión cumplida? Es como si el creador le hubiese dado un tiempo más para que llevara el mensaje en nombre de los caídos en Cerro Gordo.
La noche del 26 de marzo de 2019, 28 meses después del accidente, nos sorprendió la fatídica noticia, difícil de creer en primera instancia: Rafael Henzel murió cuando jugaba fútbol con unos amigos en Brasil.
La película empieza a rodar por la mente de quienes tuvimos algún contacto con él, con el mismo equipo Chapecoense, y con sus seres queridos más cercanos. Esa inquieta grabadora me recuerda la imagen de Sara, su esposa, y de su hijo Otavio. Cuando los entrevisté, ellos estaban tan emocionados aquella noche en el Hotel San Fernando Plaza de Medellín. Allí relataron su drama sobre el accidente a muchos kilómetros de su hogar, pero muy confiados en que Rafael se había salvado. El más convencido era Otavio, su hijo de 12 años. Así compartieron con este periodista lo que vivieron en la madrugada del 29 de noviembre de 2016 cuando les informaron que el padre de familia de 42 años había sido rescatado del avión siniestrado.
Sus miradas iluminaban aquellos rostros que querían compartir con el cronista su felicidad. Sara se animó a decir que su hijo le transmitió mucha tranquilidad, que sentía que su Papá estaba vivo. Efectivamente Rafael logró que le trataran sus costillas rotas y una fisura en el rostro en una clínica de Rionegro. Meses después, Henzel retornó a su “sitio de nacimiento”. Su esposa Sara nos relató que al aproximarse el vuelo al Aeropuerto de Rionegro Rafael apretó su mano y le dijo… “Tan sencillo es aterrizar, tan sencillo; por qué aquella noche pasó todo eso a pocos minutos de la pista?” Le dijo el narrador.
Al fondo, en una rueda de prensa, hablaban los futbolistas Alan Ruschel, Jackson Follman, Helio Neto, y el periodista Rafael Henzel, quienes vivieron para contarlo esa noche del mes de mayo de 2017. Al día siguiente, Nacional goleó y se quedó con el título de la Recopa. Ahora que Rafael Henzel está muerto no dejo de pensar en aquellos rostros de su esposa y su hijo, de Sara y Otavio quienes hoy viven el drama y el dolor de la partida, de ese vuelo definitivo del padre y del esposo, de Rafael Henzel quien fue el pregonero de la reconstrucción del Chapecoense. Misión cumplida Rafael. Descansa en Paz.

The mission of Rafael Henzel: Crier of your story

PEREIRA, Colombia, April 2, 2019.- It had been just a week since Rafael Henzel had finished a tour in Bilbao, Spain and Berlin in Germany, cities to which he was invited for the screening video documentary, about the accident and the reconstruction of Chapecoense Football Club. “Nosso Chape”, during the “Thinking Football Festival”.
The journalist at Radio West Capital of Chapecó’s City, had become a genuine testimony as a survivor of the sinister air on November 28th 2016. The place: Cerro Gordo Antioquia. There 71 people died, including almost all of Chapecoense Team that came to Colombia to play the final of Copa Sudamericana, against Atlético Nacional.
For those things that we qualify as whims of fate, the Brazilian journalist, was one of the six who were saved after the fall of Lamia’s plane. They were three football players, an aviation mechanic, a flight attendant, and a journalist, the only one among the 22 traveling journalists who managed to save himself … «When I woke up I felt very strange in the plane’s chair hanging from a tree, and I looked at the two colleagues who were sitting at my side, already dead. After asking for help I was assisted in the middle of the rain and a tremendous cold «; Henzel would tell, thanking the rescuers and paramedics. Why a journalist among the survivors?
The world was moved by the tragedy that November 28. Two days later the field at Atanasio Girardot stadium, which was waiting for the 22 players of the failed final, was occupied by a stage ready for the speeches in the posthumous tribute to the fallen. And the tribunes of the sports venue, were crowded by fans that in tears and with chants were looking for an explanation of what has happened.
Atletico Nacional asked to Conmebol (South American Football Confederation) that the title of the Copa Sudamericana 2016 be delivered to Club Chapecoense. There, was sealed a friendship and brotherhood between the two. It was also proposed a new duel between both teams. The dispute of the Recopa Sudamericana.
A few months passed and the game was finally played. In the midst of expressions of gratitude from the people of Chapecó, the first game was played on April 4th 2017. The local team known as the Verdao won by 2 to 1. The final match was scheduled in Medellín for the May 5th 2017.

The appointment with the history
The small Chapecoense Club was trying to rebuild the team that was founded in 1973, because in the tragedy of Cerro Gordo it also lost its leaders. The three players and the journalist who managed to survive arrived with the delegation. And with them their families. The visit to the accident place was like opening the wound again.
The voice and face of Rafael Henzel became very familiar in the Colombian media, and drew more attention when he said that in our territory he had been reborn. In his twitter account, he wrote that his birth dates were August 25, 1973 in Brazil, and November 29, 2016 in Colombia.
Rafael Henzel became the best crier of the new life of the modest club in the south of the Samba country. The six rescued from the plane crashed were interviewed by various media in the world, but who remained in force and with great visibility was Henzel for his activity as sports journalist. Chapecoense played the Suruga Cup in Japan, reserved for the South American Cup Champion. There, Rafael Henzel was narrating the matches.
The sports journalist published in 2017 the book: «Live as if you were leaving», work where he recounted his odyssey and left messages of life. He was invited to conferences, exhibitions, and visited various places where he became an ambassador for his city and his team. The survivor journalist. The crier. What strange things life has! Our colleague carried the message of the resurgence of Chapecoense during the last 28 months. And he closed with a flourish his task in Spain and Germany in the presentation of the documentary NOSSO Chape a few days ago.

His death
When he returned to his country, he was surprised by the death by a fulminating stroke in contact with what he loved so much: football. Mission accomplished? It is as if the creator had given him more time to carry the message on behalf of the fallen in Cerro Gordo.
On the night of March 26, 2019, 28 months after the accident, we were surprised by the fateful news, difficult to believe in the first instance: Rafael Henzel died when he played football with some friends in Brazil.
The film begins to roll in the minds of those who had some contact with him, with the same Chapecoense team, and with their closest loved ones. That restless tape recorder reminds me of the image of Sara, his wife, and his son Otavio. When I interviewed them, they were so excited that night at the San Fernando Plaza Hotel in Medellín. There they related their drama about the accident many kilometers from their home, but very confident that Rafael had been saved. The most convinced was Otavio, his 12-year-old son. So they shared with this journalist what they experienced in the early hours of November 29, 2016 when they were informed that the 42-year-old family father had been rescued from the accident plane.
Their glances illuminated those faces that wanted to share their happiness with the chronicler. Sara was encouraged to say that her son conveyed a lot of peace, that he felt that his dad was alive. Indeed, Rafael managed to treat his broken ribs and a fissure in his face at a hospital in Rionegro. Months later, Henzel returned to his «birthplace».
His wife Sara told us that as the flight approached Rionegro Airport, Rafael squeezed her hand and said … «It’s so simple to land, so simple; why did all that happen that night just a few minutes away from the track? «the journalist told her.
In the background, in a press conference, football players Alan Ruschel, Jackson Follman, Helio Neto, and journalist Rafael Henzel, who lived to tell about that night of May 2017, spoke. The next day, Nacional won title of the Recopa. Now that Rafael Henzel is dead I cannot stop thinking about those faces of his wife and son, of Sara and Otavio who today live the drama and pain of the departure, of that definitive flight of father and husband, of Rafael Henzel who was the crier of the reconstruction of Chapecoense. Mission accomplished Rafael. Rest in peace.
