BOGOTÁ, Colombia, 27 de octubre de 2018.- Fue un gran año para algunos de los atletas del continente americano y por eso, el esfuerzo, el trabajo, la dedicación y el amor por su deporte, los tiene hoy, como uno de los 10 nominados a mejor atleta 2018, tanto en la rama masculina como en la femenina, de la Asociación Internacional de Atletismo (IAAF).

A continuación, les contamos quiénes son ellos y cuáles fueron sus logros este año, para estar en la contienda más importante del atletismo mundial.

RAMA FEMENINA

CATERINE IBARGUEN (COL)

Nació el 12 de febrero de 1984.

Es doble medallista olímpica, obtuvo la medalla de plata en Londres 2012 y la de oro en Rio 2016. Doble medallista de oro mundial en 2013 y 2015, también obtuvo la medalla de plata mundial en 2017 y la de bronce en 2011. Tres veces campeona continental en 2014 y 2018. Campeona panamericana en 2011 y 2015 y medalla de bronce panamericana en 2011 en Salto Largo. Tiene ocho medallas de Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe. 3 de oro, 4 de plata y 1 de bronce y 3 medallas en Juegos Suramericanos, 1 de oro en Salto Largo y 2 de plata, una en cada prueba y múltiple medallista juvenil.

Es además seis veces y consecutivamente, campeona de la Liga Diamante en Salto Triple.

SHAUNAE MILLER-UIBO (BAH)

Nació el 15 de abril de 1994

Es la campeona de los 400m de los Juegos Olímpicos Rio 2016. Además, subcampeona mundial de la misma prueba en 2015, y medalla de bronce mundial en 2017 en los 200m.

En 2014 logró la medalla de bronce en el campeonato mundial bajo techo en los 400m, en 2017 fue campeona del mundial de relevos en los 4×400 mixtos y fue subcampeona mundial junior en los 400m en 2011.

Logros 2018

Velocidad

Campeona de la Copa Continental en los 200m, el relevo 4x100m y el relevo mixto 4x400m. Invicta en 5 eventos de quince carreras (13 finales y 2 preliminares).

Líder mundial y tres victorias en 400m con el tiempo más rápido del mundo desde 2006.

Campeona de la Liga de Diamante en los 200m.

Campeona de los Juegos de la Commonwealth en los 200m.

La mejor del mundo bajo techo en los 300m y 150m.

RAMA MASCULINA

CHRISTIAN COLEMAN (ESTADOS UNIDOS)

Nació el 6 de marzo de 1996

Es especialista en pruebas de velocidad bajo techo y al aire libre. En 2017 se convirtió en doble subcampeón mundial, de los 100m y del relevo 4x100m.

En 2015 logró la medalla de bronce de los Juegos Panamericanos Junior en los 100m y fue medallista de oro de los relevos 4x100m del Campeonato NACAC Sub23 realizado en San Salvador en 2016.

Es medalla de oro y plusmarquista de los 60m.

Récord mundial bajo techo y campeón mundial en los 60m.

Líder mundial y campeón de la Liga Diamante en los 100m.

NOAH LYLES (ESTADOS UNIDOS)

Nació el 18 de julio de 1997.

Su vida deportiva comenzó desde muy pequeño cuando practicaba la gimnasia, sin embargo, a los 12 años decidió incursionar en el atletismo, deporte que lo ha llevado a ser uno de los mejores del mundo.

En 2013 logró el segundo lugar en el campeonato Mundial juvenil en los relevos mixtos. En 2014 fue el campeón de los 200m durante los Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud. Para 2015, revalidó su poderío en los 200m al ganar la medalla de oro en el Campeonato Panamericano Junior y también ganó la de plata en los 100m. En 2016 se colgó la medalla de oro de los 100m en el Campeonato Mundial Junior al igual que en el relevo 4x100m.El año pasado fue segundo en el Mundial de Relevos de la IAAF en la prueba de los 4x200m

Bajo techo, ostenta el record mundial de los 300m con 31.87, establecido en 2017.

ATHLETES OF AMERICA NOMINATED AS THE BEST OF THE YEAR BY IAAF

BOGOTÁ, Colombia October 27, 2018.- It was a great year for some of the athletes of the American continent and for that reason, the effort, the work, the dedication and the love for their sport, they are today among the 10 nominated for the best athlete 2018, both in the male and female category, by the International Athletics Association (IAAF).

Here, we tell you who they are and what their achievements were this year, that led them to be between the most important athletes of the world in this contest.

FEMALE CATEGORY

CATERINE IBARGUEN (COL)

She was born on February 12, 1984.

She is a double Olympic medalist, won the silver medal in London 2012 and the gold medal in Rio 2016. Double world gold medalist, in 2013 and 2015, she also won the world silver medal in 2017 and the bronze medal in 2011. Three times continental champion, in 2014 and 2018. Pan-American champion in 2011 and 2015 and Pan-American bronze medal in 2011 in Long Jump. She has eight Central American and Caribbean medals, 3 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze and 3 South American medals, 1 gold in Long Jump and 2 silver medals, one in each event and she is multiple youth medalists.

She is also six times and consecutively, Diamond League champion in Triple Jump.

SHAUNAE MILLER-UIBO (BAH)

She was born on April 15, 1994

She is the 400m champion at Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In addition, the world runner-up at the same event in 2015, and the world bronze medal in 2017 in the 200m.

In 2014 she won the bronze medal in the indoor world championship in the 400m, in 2017 she was the relay world champion in the mixed 4x400m and was junior world runner-up in the 400m in 2011.

Achievements 2018

Sprint

Continental Champion in the 200m, the relay 4x100m and the mixed relay 4x400m. Unbeatable in 5 events in fifteen races (13 finals and 2 preliminaries).

World leader and three times winner at 400m with the fastest time in the world since 2006.

Diamond League Champion at 200m

Commonwealth Games Champion at 200m.

The best in the world indoors at 300m and 150m

MALE CATEGORY

CHRISTIAN COLEMAN (UNITED STATES)

He was born on March 6, 1996

He specializes in indoor and outdoor sprint tests. In 2017 he became double world runner-up, at 100m and 4x100m relay.

In 2015, he won the bronze medal at the Pan American Junior Games at 100m and was a gold medalist at 4x100m relay at the U23 NACAC Championship held in San Salvador in 2016.

He is gold medalist and record holder at 60m.

Indoor World record and world champion at 60m.

World leader and Diamond League champion at 100m.

NOAH LYLES (UNITED STATES)

He was born on July 18, 1997.

His sport life began at a very young age when he practiced gymnastics, however, at age of 12 he decided to go into athletics, a sport that has lead him to be one of the best in the world.

In 2013 he achieved the second place at the Youth World Championship in mixed relays. In 2014 he was the 200m champion during the Youth Olympic Games. In 2015, he revalidated his power at the 200m by winning the gold medal at the Pan American Junior Championship and also won the silver at 100m. In 2016 he achieved the 100m gold medal at the Junior World Championship as well as the 4x100m relay. Last year he was second in the IAAF Relay World Championship at 4x200m.

He holds the indoor world 300m record with 31.87, established in 2017.
