BOGOTÁ, Colombia 14 de diciembre de 2017.- Es considerada la competencia más difícil del automovilismo mundial, hasta el punto que muchos no participan con la pretensión de ocupar los lugares del podio sino de terminar la carrera. Este es el Dakar, prueba que nació en 1977 con el lema “Un desafío para aquellos que parten. Un sueño para quienes se quedan” y que se consolidó en 1978, gracias al francés Thierry Sabine quien tras perderse en el desierto de Teneré en Africa, durante el recorrido del rally Abidjan-Niza, logró admirar lo maravilloso e imponente del paisaje por lo que decidió crear un recorrido saliendo de Europa, pasando por Alger, Agadez y finalizando en Dakar, así fue como en 1978 el sueño se hizo realidad y nació el Rally París-Dakar.

Durante muchos años, y hasta 1994 el Dakar se realizó en Europa, y partiendo de París principalmente, pero desde 1995 la línea de salida ha estado en los escenarios de Granada, Lisboa o Barcelona entre otros. Igualmente, la meta no siempre ha sido en Dakar, pues en 1992 la competencia terminó en Ciudad del Cabo en Suráfrica, en 2000 en El Cairo, y en 2003 en Sharm el-Sheij estas dos últimas ciudades de Egipto.

2008 es el único año en el que el Dakar no se ha realizado a consecuencia de los eventuales atentados terroristas en Mauritania, por lo que el gobierno francés decidió cancelar el evento. Ya para 2009 la competencia cambió totalmente de escenario trasladándose a Suramérica, en donde ha atravesado países como Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Perú y Paraguay.

Para este 2018 en su cuadragésima edición el Dakar recorrerá Perú, Bolivia y Argentina entre el 6 y el 20 de enero, se competirá en cinco categorías; coches, motos, camiones, cuatriciclos o quads y UTVs o side by side, contará con 14 etapas y la participación de 500 competidores de 60 nacionalidades quienes atravesarán zonas arenosas, barro, rocas y terreno de vegetación durante 10 mil kilómetros.

El equipo colombiano no estará ausente en esta aventura el automovilismo mundial, y con un grupo entre experimentados y debutantes, acude este año también con la meta puesta en probar suerte y entrar en el mítico mundo de la carrera por las arenas suramericanas. Colombia estará representada por:

Nicolás Robledo: logró pódium en un rally preliminar y en esta oportunidad buscará cristalizar sus aspiraciones en cuatrimotos.

Santiago Bernal: participará por primera vez en el evento y lo hará en la categoría de motos siendo el único colombiano en esta categoría. “Mis expectativas están enfocadas en aprender mucho, en entender la carrera y aprender a gestionarla. Tengo unas aspiraciones humildes, de ir a competir de la mejor forma posible y de representar muy bien al país, y para eso me he preparado toda la vida”.

Cristian Cajicá: primer colombiano en participar en la modalidad de cuatrimoto y quien estará por cuarta vez en la prueba más difícil del automovilismo mundial.

Se viene un nuevo reto, ésta ya es la cuarta vez que estará en el Dakar, ¿qué es lo que se espera para este 2018?
Por ahora sin mayores pretensiones lo que siempre hemos querido los pilotos es terminar. Hay que estar dispuesto a que el solo hecho de terminar sea un gran logro, que mirar la posición no sea tan relevante, claramente si queremos llegar más adelante, pero pues eso es muy relativo, primero hay que vencer al Dakar y después a los demás por que el Dakar te puede vencer más rápido que lo que te puede vencer cualquier otro piloto, entonces las expectativas es terminar.

¿De las experiencias que ha tenido en los tres años anteriores que ha recopilado para lo que viene este año?
Sabes, no me habían hecho esa pregunta y se me vino un flash back…. Desde el primero hemos venido por gloria, ese primero fue una gloria impresionante porque terminamos, quedamos de 5tos y 17 en la general, y después se nos vinieron unos años difíciles, primero la rotura de la moto, después me accidenté este año, entonces se trae de todo, se trae toda la experiencia del mundo y esperamos que las cosas salgan bien.

¿Su equipo y qué características tiene?
Me llena de orgullo decir que tenemos una cuatri ciento por ciento colombiana y que nuestro equipo es 100% colombiano, esto nos hace trabajar con más amor.

THE RALLY DAKAR ARRIVES WITH ITS 40TH EDITION

BOGOTA, Colombia, December 14, 2017.-It is considered the most difficult competition in the motorsport world, to the extend that many do not participate with the idea of getting the places of the podium but to finish the race. This is the Dakar, a test that was born in 1977 with the slogan «A challenge for those who leave. A dream for those who stay» and that was consolidated in 1978, thanks to the French Thierry Sabine who after getting lost in the desert of Teneré in Africa, during the course of the Abidjan-Nice rally, managed to admire the wonderful and imposing landscape, so decided to create a tour leaving from Europe, going through Alger, Agadez and ending in Dakar. That’s how in 1978 the dream came true and the Paris-Dakar Rally was born.

For many years, and until 1994 the Dakar was raced in Europe, leaving from Paris mainly, but since 1995 the starting line has had different cities, as Granada, Lisbon or Barcelona among others. Likewise, the final line has not always been in Dakar, as in 1992 the competition ended in Cape Town in South Africa, in 2000 in Cairo, and in 2003 in Sharm el-Sheikh these last two cities in Egypt.

2008 is the only year in which the Dakar has not had a competition as a result of the possible terrorist attacks in Mauritania, so the French government decided to cancel the event. By 2009, the competition changed completely from Europe and Africa to South America, where it has crossed countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru and Paraguay.

For this 2018 in its 40th edition the Dakar will tour Peru, Bolivia and Argentina between January 6 and 20, it will compete in five categories; cars, motorcycles, trucks, quads and UTVs or side by side; will have 14 stages and the participation of 500 competitors of 60 nationalities who will cross sandy areas, mud, rocks and more for 10 thousand kilometers.

The Colombian team will be present once again in this world motorsport adventure, and with a group of experienced and debutants, this year also comes with the goal set to try their luck and enter the legendary world of the race for the South American sands. Colombia will be represented by:

Nicolás Robledo: achieved podium in a preliminary rally and this time he will seek to crystallize his aspirations in UTVs.

Santiago Bernal: will take part for the first time in the event and will do so in motorcycles, being the only Colombian in this category. «My expectations are focused on learning a lot, on understanding the path and learning to manage it. I have humble aspirations, to compete in the best possible way and to represent the country very well, for that I have prepared my whole life».

Cristian Cajicá: first Colombian to participate in quads category and who will be for the fourth time in the most difficult race of the motorsport world.

A new challenge is coming, this is already the fourth time that you will be in the Dakar, ¿what is expected for this 2018?
For now, without pretension …. What the pilots always want is to finish. We must be willing that the mere fact of finishing is a great achievement, that looking at the position is not so relevant; clearly we want to finish in a better position, but that is very complicated; first we have to beat the Dakar and then the others, because the Dakar can beat you faster than any other driver can beat you, so the expectations is to finish.

From the experiences that you have had in the previous three years, what have you taken for what is coming this year?
You know, I have not been asked that question and I got a flash back … From the first one, we came for glory, and that first was an impressive glory because we finished, we were 5th and 17th in the general classification; then we came with a few difficult years; first the breakage of the quad, then I had an accident this year, so now I come with everything, it brings all the experience of the world and I hope that things go well.

Your team and what features do you have?
It fills me with pride to say that we have a 100% Colombian´s quad and that our team is 100% Colombian, so this makes us work with more love.
