BOGOTÁ, Colombia, 25 de agosto de 2017.- Hamburgo, Alemania será la sede del Campeonato Mundial de Boxeo Aficionado que se realizará desde el 25 de agosto hasta el 2 de septiembre de 2017, evento que tendrá en competencia a peleadores de 18 países del continente: Argentina, Barbados, Brasil, Canadá, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Estados Unidos, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Trinidad y Tobago y Venezuela, todos los boxeadores se ganaron el cupo luego de disputar el clasificatorio en Honduras, el cual fue dominado por Cuba que a la postre clasificó a siete deportistas.

Los favoritos de la región son muy variables, pues están los experimentados pero así mismo las jóvenes promesas que se han destacado en los últimos años, entre ellos el colombiano Yuberjén Martínez, subcampeón olímpico en 49 kilos, quien ha rechazado la opción de pelear como profesional y no le ha ido nada mal. También está el dominicano Leonel de los Santos, quien ahora peleará en los 56 kilos y el puertorriqueño Yankiel Rivera quien estuvo a punto de eliminar al cubano Yosbany Veitía en cuartos de final del Campeonato de las Américas.

Las grandes ausencias pasarán por los boxeadores olímpicos que estuvieron en Rio, el venezolano Yoel Finol, bronce en 52 kg, quien se recupera de una lesión y se prepara para los Juegos Bolivarianos de noviembre en Santa Marta, Colombia, el brasileño Robson Conceiçao, oro en 60 kg y el mexicano Misael Rodríguez, bronce en 75 kg.

El mundial tendrá en el ring a 279 peleadores de 85 países.

LOS PELEADORES

ARGENTINA: Alberto Melian (56kg), Yamil Alberto Peralta Jara (91kg) y Luis Calderon (+91kg).

BARBADOS: Jabali Breedy (52kg)

BRASIL: Wanderson de Oliveira (60kg), Joedison de Jesús Teixeira (64kg), Jhonatan Soares (69kg), Michel Borges (81kg) y Juan Nogueira (91kg).

CANADA: Arther Biyerslonov (64kg)

COLOMBIA: Colombia nunca ha ganado un título mundial pero para esta ocasión seguramente no pasará desapercibida, “en este momento no somos desconocidos en el boxeo, ya que hemos hecho un buen trabajo a nivel internacional en los últimos años, en este caso resalta Yuberjen Martínez, por su medalla en Rio 2016, y Ceiber Ávila de quien está pendiente su medalla olímpica” expresó Jeysson Monrroy quien representó al país en los Olímpicos de Londres 2012 y quien irá por su tercer mundial; el primero fue en Italia 2009 donde terminó de 14 y en el segundo en Azerbaiyán 2011 quedó de noveno logrando la clasificación para los olímpicos. Los colombianos a diferencia de otros, no lograron tener topes internacionales aunque su preparación estuvo bien en cuanto a las posibilidades. La delegación la conforman Yuberjen Martínez (49kg), Ceiber Ávila (52kg), Jhon Gutiérrez (64kg), Jorge Luis Vivas (75kg) Jeysson Monroy (81kg), Deivis Julio Blanco (91kilos) y Cristian Salcedo (+91kg).

COSTA RICA: La delegación costarricense estará conformada por Robinson Rodríguez (49kg), David Jiménez (52kg) y Antony Solano (91kg), siendo éste el tercer mundial para Rodríguez y el debut de Jiménez y Solano en una competencia como esta; ellos estarán bajo la supervisión de su entrenador, el cubano Ernesto Aroche. «Estamos muy emocionados por esta nueva oportunidad. Nos hemos preparado a conciencia porque sabemos que no será fácil, pero confiamos en lo que hicimos en el gimnasio y en algunos fogueos», dijo David «Medallita» Jiménez.

CUBA: El país con más títulos en la historia del boxeo aficionado, tendrá su representación en los puños de Johanys Argilagos (49kg), Yosbany Veitia (52kg), Javier Ibáñez (56kg) -quien reemplazará en esta oportunidad a Robeisy Ramírez, el doble campeón olímpico en los 56 kilos quien estuvo alejado de los rings desde los Juegos de Río hasta el pasado junio y debido a su inactividad no logró clasificarse para Hamburgo; Lázaro Álvarez (60kg), campeón mundial en 2011, 2013 y 2015, Andy Cruz (64kg), Roniel Iglesias (69kg), Arlén López (75kg), Julio César de la Cruz (81kg) y Erislandy Savon (91kg), con quienes se espera seguir haciendo historia, pues hasta la fecha Cuba suma 128 medallas, 71 de oro, 32 de plata y 25 de bronce, dominando la clasificación histórica de esta competencia que tuvo la primera edición en La Habana en 1974 y teniendo en cuenta que estuvieron ausentes en 2007.

ECUADOR: Carlos Quipo (49kg), Carlos Mina (81kg) y Julio Castillo (91kg)

ESTADOS UNIDOS: Ganó cuatro cupos con Duke Ragan (56kg), Delante Johnson (60kg), Freudis Rojas (64kg), Quinton Randall (69kg), Troy Isley (75kg) y Nkosi Salomon (91kg).

GUATEMALA: Michel Tello (49kg) y Lester Martínez (75kg)

HONDURAS: Bayron Efrain Molina Figueroa (49kg) y Jayro Fernando Duran Escobar (60kg).

JAMAICA: Ian Darby (81kg) y Ricardo Brown (+91kg)

MÉXICO: Cristopher Flores (56kg), Alberto Mora (60kg) y Rogelio Romero (81kg).

NICARAGUA: Ángel Jarquin (56kg), Jeffrey González (91kg) y Dirk Wells (+91). Para los nicaragüenses, este mundial sera parte de su preparación para los Juegos XI Juegos Centroamericanos Managua 2017

PANAMÁ: Luis Hernández (75kg) fue confirmado como el representante de Panamá luego del retiro del brasileño Hebert Da Conceicao, quien estaba clasificado pero que sufrió un percance, y de esta manera Hernández logra el cupo por haber terminado en la posición número 7 del clasificatorio y se convierte además en el primer panameño en tener clasificación directa a un Mundial, pues los anteriores boxeadores habían llegado por ‘Wild Card’. Tras recibir la noticia el panameño se preparó durante los últimos dos meses haciendo parte de varios topes internacionales. En entrevista con el periodista Ricardo Archibold, del Periódico El Siglo y miembro de AIPS, el boxeador quien recientemente obtuvo su título universitario en Licenciatura en Logística y Transporte Multimodal expresó: ‘Es un honor representar a Panamá en un torneo de esta magnitud, y vamos a darlo todo por nuestro país’, y agregó que se ha mantenido entrenando tras recuperarse de una lesión. Hernández estará acompañado de su entrenador Pedro Echeverría junto a quien esperan estar dentro de los mejores 16 del mundo de su categoría.

PUERTO RICO: Puerto Rico consiguió cuatro cupos gracias a Oscar Collazo (49kg), Yankiel Rivera (52kg), Bryan Polaco (69kg) y Luis Rodríguez (75kg). Sus peleadores tuvieron la última etapa de preparación en Madrid.

REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA: Los dominicanos también estarán representados por cuatro boxeadores, Leonel de los Santos (56kg) y Juan Ramón Solano (69kg) quienes participaron en los pasados Juegos Olímpicos Rio 2016 y Alexys Miguel de la Cruz (60kg) y Elvis Severino Rodríguez (64kg). La delegación adelantó sus entrenamientos en Budapest, Hungría.

TRINIDAD Y TOBAGO: Nigel Paul (+91kg)

VENEZUELA: Venezuela dirá presente con cuatro púgiles, con Gabriel Maestre (69kg) a la cabeza, a él lo acompañarán Franklin González (52kg), Luis Cabrera (60kg) y Albert Ramírez (81kg) junto a quienes estarán los entrenadores Omar Coffi y Juan Hernández, así lo reseñó la Prensa CPD de ese país.

Las autoridades deportivas de Venezuela tienen grandes expectativas de medallas en este evento mundialista, especialmente con el experimentado Gabriel Maestre, quien logró la medalla de oro en los Panamericanos de 2015 y la de bronce en el Mundial de Kazajistán en 2013.

Además AIBA informó que el también venezolano, Gilberto Mendoza, presidente de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo, será invitado de honor en Hamburgo junto al ex campeón mundial de los pesos pesados, el ucraniano Wladimir Klitschko.

BOXERS FROM THE AMERICAS ARE READY FOR THE AIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN HAMBURG

BOGOTÁ, Colombia, August 25, 2017. – Hamburg, Germany will host the AIBA World Championship, (International Association of Amateur Boxing) from 25^th August to 2^nd September 2017, an event that will have fighters from 18 countries from the American continent in the contest; Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela, all boxers won a place to this World Championship after taking part in the continental qualifying in Honduras, event that was dominated by Cuba.

The favorites of the region are very variable, some are the experienced guys but also the young promises that have stood out in recent years, among them the Colombian boxer Yuberjén Martínez, an Olympic silver medal in 49kg at Rio 2016, who actually has rejected the option of fighting as a professional, and so far it has been a good decision for him. We can also talk about Leonel de los Santos from Dominican Republic, who have changed his category and will now fight in the 56kg and Puerto Rican Yankiel Rivera an inspired athlete who was about to beat Cuban Yosbany Veitía in the quarterfinals of the Americas Championship.

But also some fighters will be missed, mainly the Olympic boxers who were in Rio 2016, such as the Venezuelan Yoel Finol, bronze 52kg, who recovers from an injury and who decided to prepare for the Bolivarian Games this November in Santa Marta, Colombia, the Brazilian Robson Conceiçao, gold in the 60kg category and the Mexican Misael Rodríguez, bronze in 75kg.

The Colombians unlike others did not manage to have international bouts, although their preparation was good as far as the possibilities. Their coach is the Cuban Ernesto Aroche. «We are very excited about this new opportunity. We have prepared conscientiously because we know it will not be easy, but we trust in what we did in the gym and in some bouts.»

CUBA: The country with the most titles in the history of amateur boxing will have its representation in the fists of Johanys Argilagos (49kg), Yosbany Veitia (52kg), Javier Ibáñez (56kg) – who will replace Robeisy Ramírez this time, as the double Olympic champion in 56kg was away from the rings since Rio 2016 until last June and due to his inactivity failed to qualify for Hamburg; Lázaro Álvarez (60kg) who has been World Champion in 2011, 2013 and 2015, Andy Cruz (64kg), Roniel Iglesias (69kg), Arlén López (75kg), Julio César de la Cruz (81kg) and Erislandia Savon. PANAMA: Luis Hernandez (75kg) is the only fighter who will represent Panama, he got the place after the walk-out of Brazilian Hebert Da Conceicao, who was classified but suffered an injury, so in this way Hernández obtained the quota after finished in the seventh position at the qualification in Honduras, he also becomes the first Panamanian to have a direct classification to a World Cup, since the previous boxers had got a ‘Wild Card’. After receiving the news the Panamanian started a preparation, taking part at several international bouts. In an interview with journalist Ricardo Archibold, from El Siglo Newspaper and member of AIPS, the boxer who recently obtained his university degree said: ‘It is an honour to represent Panama in such a tournament like this, and I am going to give everything for my country”. Hernandez will be with his coach Pedro Echeverría, who hopes to finish among the best 16 boxers in the world in his category.

PUERTO RICO: Got four places thanks to Oscar Collazo (49kg), Yankiel Rivera (52kg), Bryan Polaco (69kg) and Luis Rodríguez (75kg). Its fighters had the last stage of preparation in Madrid.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Dominicans will also be represented by four boxers, Leonel de los Santos (56kg) and Juan Ramon Solano (69kg) who were in the last Olympics Games Rio 2016 and Alexys Miguel de la Cruz (60kg) and Elvis Severino Rodríguez (64kg).
