Munich (dpa) – Bayern Munich’s Germany international Mario Goetze would do well to follow coach Juergen Klopp to Liverpool, German football great Franz Beckenbauer said Saturday.
Goetze has failed to establish a regular first-team place at Bayern, and Beckenbauer, the club’s honorary president, told Sky television the midfielder should perhaps rejoin Klopp, who was the player’s coach at Borussia Dortmund.
«I would go where he feels comfortable. I think Mario Goetze never really felt comfortable here,» Beckenbauer said ahead of the Bundesliga match against Hanover.
«There is something lacking in interpersonal relationships. Mario Goetze is someone who needs to be cuddled. I might follow in the footsteps of Juergen Klopp.»
Goetze, who started in Saturday’s final Bundesliga game of the season, has a contract at Bayern for another year but it is thought the 23-year-old will leave the club in the off-season.
