Wolfsburg, Germany (dpa) – Bundesliga club Wolfsburg will be without influential midfielder Julian Draxler for several weeks with a muscle injury but his participation at Euro 2016 appears not in danger
Draxler for several weeks with a muscle injury but his participation at Euro 2016 appears not in danger.
Draxler suffered a muscle sinew tear in the first half of Wolfsburg’s 3-0 Champions League defeat at Real Madrid and Wolfsburg tweeted Thursday he «will miss out on the next few games.»
There are five Bundesliga rounds left in the season which ends on May 14, the day before Germany coach Joachim Loew is to nominate his provisional squad for the Euro in France, which starts on June 10.
Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking said «I don’t think he (Draxler) will be sidelined (for Euro). But first of all we must see how long he will be absent.»
Draxler’s absence is a blow for Wolfsburg who are eighth with only a slim chance of qualifying for a European event next season.
«I am disappointed and its a shame that I can’t help the team reach its season goal. I will do everything to be back as soon as possible,» he said.
